 The Vine in Kenya

In August 09, a team of 6 people from the Vine Community Church went to Kenya to work with orphan babies and children in Nairobi, Kenya. All the children had been abandoned as babies, left in toilets, ditches, or at hospitals. Many were HIV+, some with other health problems too.

P8110096.JPG We went to work at New Life Homes, Nairobi, founded 15 years ago by Clive and Mary Beckenham . Here’s the team, from the left, Dave, Veronica, Alison, Clive and Mary, Sam, Becky and Cat.

While we were there, we fed and played with the babies,

and played games,

And skipped!

And jumped!

And sang and danced,

and did crafts with the children.

Dave and Veronica also visited the Glad Tidings churches in the region around Kombewa, where they had gone the previous November to speak at a national conference of African churches.

The Vine Church has funded much-needed boreholes in the area.

The first borehole-

first-bhole

DSC00021 The latest borehole- here’s Moses, church leader, showing what good water is now available. This latest borehole is also providing water for an amazing new
project- a tree nursery!

20,000 tree seedlings are now being grown, in home-made pots, providing work for 4 people and a self-sustaining wealth-producing business.

Despite struggling for even basic facilities(no running water or toilets in their houses), our friends in the churches in Kenya are very welcoming and hospitable, and joyful in worship.

Worship

We are committed to continuing to partner with our Kenyan friends, and are at present trying to work out how we can best give support to the orphan children we met in August.

Also, there are destitute widows in Kombewa, with no way of supporting themselves, and we are hoping to work with our church link to purchase some land for the widows to grow their own food.

If you’re interested in finding out more, or even getting involved, do come and meet us in the Vine Church- we’re ordinary people, with big hopes that together we can help make a difference in the world.
